Parties and Potions

Even though we all know that witches don’t exist in the world some people like to pretend they do. In this book there is a whole other story with boy and girl witches. One interesting thing is that there is no boy witches, boys that have powers are called warlocks instead. So you see that there is a whole other twist with the witches and warlocks. “Parties and Potions” is completely a story that will pull you into real life with its realistic life capturing moments with romance and a ton of drama. I assure you that what I’m telling you is true.

The main character “Rachel” in this novel is going through a tough time with these two boys she really likes: Raf and Adam. Rachel was already dating Raf when she met Adam in Charm school. Adam thinks that she should tell Raf the truth about her being a witch. Rachel tried telling her dad but it wasn’t how she hoped it would and didn’t want to go through it again with Raf so she broke up with him, heartbroken.  Also with what happened with her dad, telling him the truth almost made him faint not wanting to see the girls for a while to take it all in. That really started to upset the girls mostly Miri; Rachel’s little sister. During that time for the next few paragraphs all Rachel wanted to do is lie in bed and cry herself to sleep. Reading the part about her breaking up with Raf and her crying almost made me cry and feel miserable, same with her seeing her dad and not being able to see or speak to him made me miss my dad. This is only the drama part of the spectacular story.

What I am about to tell you doesn’t happen in most stories. It is the story of young love. Rachel finally gets the guy of her dreams and believe it or not, she counts every single kiss they shared and got up to one hundred and thirty-two kisses, then at the end they did one more that made one last kiss that was number hundred and thirty-three. Those two really liked each other from the very beginning. They would go out to a pizza place with their friends and hang out at each other’s house watching movies. Rachel does start to like the new guy Adam but only as a friend, though he does start to like her and tries to kiss her but she refuses. I know I would do the same thing even though in the book she was flirting with him without even knowing it.

Because of all the different characters that are in the book. One time in the book Rachel finds out that there is something very strange about Raf, it is that he likes to yell at movies. Rachel invited him over for a movie night and he was just going on yelling at the actors saying “Get out of the way” or “Don’t go in the closet are you mad”. Whenever Rachel gets nervous she sometimes falls randomly by tripping on something right in the middle of a party. This mostly happened whenever she saw Adam and Miri would make a kissy face. I would always feel so embarrassed like it happened to me or someone I know.

It really breaks my heart to say this but this is the last book Sarah Mlynowski made and so goes the magic. I will always remember this with its humorous life breaking adventures and magic.
